Manchester United have been given hope that their chase for Bastian Schweinsteiger might not be over just yet, after Bayern Munich's sporting director admitted that the German international could still exit the club this summer.
The midfielder threw any hopes United had of securing a deal in doubt earlier in the week when he said "I've still got a year on my contract, so there's no rush and the summer's only just beginning.
“We are three times German champions. And I think no team has managed it four times. That's a motivation," but now Sammer has insisted that no decision has been made over the 30-year-old's future.
According to the Express, he said: "Basically, nothing is excluded. It's a crazy world. He has clearly expressed that he is an important part of the team, but let's see. We're still waiting."
The midfield star, who has been at Bayern since he was just 14-years-old, missed a number of games last season due to a long-term knee injury, and only made his first start of the term in December.
Another injury to his ankle ruled him out for a couple of weeks later in the season, meaning that he only started 15 league games all season - a worrying amount of time on the sidelines for an aging player.
With only one year left on his contract with the Bundesliga champions, the club will have to decide whether they want to risk giving him a long-term contract with the knowledge that his injuries may flare up again.
If not, they have the choice of either selling him to United this summer or losing him on a free transfer at the end of next season.
