What is it with Chelsea attempting to do swaps deal this summer?
A few days after news did the rounds that Chelsea tried to engineer a swap with with Arsenal in which Petr Cech and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain who change clubs, The Times are now reporting the the Blues have offer Atletico Madrid a different swap proposal.
Interestingly, Jose Mourinho has history of swap deals, for example he shook hands with the Gunners on the transfers of William Gallas plus 5 million pounds for Ashley Cole back in 2006.
The Times, a paper that usually steers away from reporting lies and nonsense, claim that Chelsea have offered left-back Filipe Luis to Atletico Madrid, in an attempt to land Belgian international defender Toby Alderweireld.
Alderweireld, of course, gained valuable Premier League experience last season during a loan spell at Southampton.
Whether Chelsea can complete the deal is doubtful however, as Alderweireld’s future is made more complicated by the fact that Southampton and Tottenham are also looking to land his signature. According to The Times:
Southampton will take up their option of their loan agreement to sign Alderweireld, 26, on a permanent deal for about £7 million, but Atletico will exercise a counter-clause that allows them to cancel the agreement by paying about £2 million to the south coast side should the Belgian move to another club.
Atletico believe that they can sell Alderweireld for upwards of £15 million amid strong interest from Tottenham Hotspur, who are willing to offer the likes of Étienne Capoue and Roberto Soldado as part of any deal.
